Performs routine building maintenance, minor repairs, and housekeeping tasks to support resident health and comfort.
Coordinates with House Supervisors, Nursing, and program staff to ensure safety, accessibility, and regulatory compliance.
Education: High school diploma or GED required; trades training or facility management credentials preferred.
Experience: Prior facilities, maintenance, or housekeeping work; experience in a residential care or HCBS setting is a plus.
Background checks: Successful completion of required fingerprint/background checks per HHSC/employer policies.
Licensing/credentials: Not always required to hold a professional license; some sites may prefer or require specific trades licenses (e.g., electrical, plumbing) for certain repairs.
Driving: Valid driver’s license and clean driving record may be required if travel between homes or transporting supplies is needed.
Safety & health training: OSHA 10/OSHA 30 (general) or equivalent, hazard communication, and PPE usage.
Infection control & housekeeping: Site-specific cleaning protocols, sanitation standards, and waste disposal.
First aid/CPR: Basic first aid and CPR certifications are often recommended or required.
Fire safety & emergency procedures: Fire drill procedures, safety equipment checks, and emergency readiness.
Facility operations: Training on building systems (HVAC, plumbing, electrical basics), leak detection, and routine maintenance workflows.
Onboarding: Orientation to agency policies, TAC/HHSC requirements, and resident rights.
Health status: Meet employer and HHSC health requirements; immunizations as required.
Safety culture: Adherence to safety policies, incident reporting, and corrective action follow-through.
Rights & dignity: Respect resident rights; maintain confidentiality of resident information where applicable.
Infection control: Follow cleaning/disinfection protocols and PPE guidelines.
Preventive maintenance: Schedule and perform routine inspections of facilities (structures, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, appliances).
Repairs & upkeep: Minor repairs or coordination with approved contractors; ensure residential spaces are safe and accessible.
Housekeeping responsibilities: Clean common areas, resident rooms as assigned, laundry support if required, waste management, and sanitation.
Safety compliance: Ensure doors, exits, fire extinguishers, and safety equipment are functional; report hazards.
Supply management: Monitor consumables (cleaning supplies, batteries, light bulbs, etc.); restock as needed.
Environmental health: Maintain pest control coordination and monitor cleanliness to minimize risk to residents.
Communication & documentation: Complete maintenance work orders, incident reports, and shift handoffs; communicate needs to supervisors.
Transportation & logistics: If applicable, transport of supplies between sites or assist with moving equipment.
Supervision: Typically report to a House Supervisor, Facilities Manager, or Operations Manager.
Collaboration: Work with DSPs, nurses, and program staff to address safety and accessibility concerns.
Scheduling: Coordinate maintenance tasks to minimize disruption to resident routines; respond to urgent repairs as needed.
Recordkeeping: Maintain logs of maintenance activities, safety inspections, and cleaning schedules.
Regulatory alignment: Comply with TAC/HHSC requirements for service type; support safety and rights protections.
Incident reporting: Document and escalate safety incidents or environmental concerns per policy.
